Reakto is built on a simple promise: students can share how they feel without fear. This page explains exactly what data we collect, who can see it, and how it is handled. We've kept it short on purpose.
1
What data is collected?
We collect only what is necessary to run the service:
- Teacher accounts: email address, display name, and a hashed password. Your password is never stored in plain text.
- Courses: the course title and a randomly generated 6-character join code.
- Student check-ins: the emotion selected, an optional free-text note, and a timestamp. Check-in records do not contain any name, account ID, or IP address. Your IP address is briefly processed in memory for rate-limiting and abuse prevention only — it is not written to the check-in row and cannot be linked back to your submission.
- Teacher response messages: the message text, a timestamp, and which course it belongs to.
2
Who can see what?
- Students cannot see each other's responses, cannot see who submitted what, and cannot access the teacher dashboard in any way.
- Teachers can see aggregated emotion counts and individual notes for their own courses only. They cannot access data from any other teacher's course.
- Reakto does not sell, share, or use student check-in data for any purpose other than displaying it to the course teacher.
3
Where is data stored?
All data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on a managed cloud provider. Data is not transferred outside the hosting region. We will update this section with the specific provider name once the app is deployed to production.
4
How long is data kept?
- Student check-ins are automatically deleted 90 days after submission.
- Data is retained for as long as the teacher account is active.
- When a teacher deletes a course, all check-ins associated with that course are permanently deleted immediately (cascade delete).
5
How can data be deleted?
- Teachers can delete any course — and all its check-ins — from their dashboard at any time.
- To delete your teacher account and every associated course, check-in, and audit record, go to Profile → Danger Zone → Delete my account. The deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
- If you cannot access your account, email support@reakto.app and we will process the request within 7 days.

What Reakto is not
Reakto is a wellbeing check-in tool. It is not a clinical, diagnostic, or crisis-intervention service, and it is not a substitute for professional mental-health support. The keyword-based flag system is a first-signal aid only — it can miss concerning notes and it can flag notes that are not genuinely concerning. Teachers must follow their own school's safeguarding procedures and exercise professional judgement. See our Terms of Service for the full safeguarding notice.
